Saber-toothed tigers had almost comically large teeth: These felines could open their jaws at a snake-worthy 120-degree angle, or about twice the width of a modern lion (or a gaping domestic cat). Paradoxically, however, the different species of Smilodons did not chew their prey with much force, as they had to protect their precious fangs from accidental breakage!
