According to an old legend, Antwerp owes its name to the Roman soldier Silvius Brabo. He cut off the hand of the terrible giant Druon Antigoon and threw it into the Scheldt. For more than a hundred years, Silvius Brabo has stood stock still in a throwing position on the Grote Markt.
