Those who aren't big must be smart. Or at least be a little creative with the rules, because otherwise you won't get anywhere. The main characters in the stories and poems by Annie M.G. Schmidt know this all too well. Floddertje makes clever use of a painter's ladder when she is locked in her room, Prélientje overcomes her shyness and tames three ferocious lions, and the little girl Pietepeut catches the beast with the surname while singing (and becomes queen in passing). Even a little cockroach can experience something wonderful if Schmidt takes him under her wing. All these little heroes have been brought together in this not very big but very beautiful collection for reading aloud.
