Amsterdam, 1820. They looked around the house once more, but they saw nothing more that was worth taking with them. Dad put on his top hat. They climbed the stairs outside. Andries closed the door behind him. The click of the lock gave him a good feeling. He hoped with all his heart for a better life in the colonies. With a sick mother and a father who drinks away all their money, Andries' life is not easy. He hopes that everything will be better if their family gets the chance to start over in a colony in Drenthe or Overijssel. Andries is very disappointed. Life there is very hard. Andries has to dig until his hands bleed. His father keeps getting them into trouble, which means they can never stay in the same place for long. But what are they running from? What happened in the past? Will Andries and his family succeed in coming to terms with the past and finally start over somewhere?
