The poignant stories of three children on the run
A contemporary youth novel that is as exciting as it is moving
Refugee describes the lives of Josef, Isabel and Mahmoud. They are separated by time and space, but nevertheless have much in common. Due to the imminent danger in their countries of origin, each of them is forced to flee.
Josef lives in Germany in the thirties, where he is no longer safe as a Jewish boy. Together with his family he leaves by ship to the other side of the world.
Isabel's story takes place in 1994, in the very troubled Cuba. She and her family hope to find safety and freedom in America, where they sail on a raft.
Mahmoud comes from Syria, where violence and destruction prevail in 2015. This is the reason for his family and himself to move towards Europe.
All three of them are forced to leave everything familiar behind in their search for a better future.
