Pietje, do you have to pee?

‘Pietje, moet je pelassen?’ is a wonderfully humorous picture book by Sunna Borghuis (known for ‘Scheetjesles’, among other things) with illustrations by Ruth Hengeveld. Toilet training and Sinterklaas are an unexpectedly hilarious combination! Thomas is four and toilet trained, and then he is finally allowed to go to the Pietenschool! Everyone there is called Piet. Thomas too, and his sister - who is simply called Sophie at home - too. The teacher asks if he can go to the toilet by himself yet. ‘For a long time now,’ Pietje answers. At school, Pietje learns everything a real Piet should be able to do: baking gingerbread nuts, climbing ropes, wrapping presents. Pietje does everything, except going to the toilet. The teacher starts to worry, but Pietje really doesn’t need to go to the toilet! When he sings ‘Kak, poep, drol, mijn broek zit vol,’ when he is picked up, his mother fears the worst… Or are there just freshly baked gingerbread nuts in his trouser pocket? Sunna Borghuis wrote ‘Pietje, moet je pelassen?’ a cheerful story about a Piet who knows exactly how it works, going to school without a diaper. The illustrations by Ruth Hengeveld ensure that everyone wants to become a pupil at the Pietenschool.
