Amsterdam, 1820. They looked around the house once more, but they saw nothing worth taking. Dad put on his top hat. They climbed the stairs outside. Andries closed the door behind him. The click of the lock gave him a good feeling. He hoped with all his heart for a better life in the colonies. With an ailing mother and a father who drinks away all their money, Andries's life isn't easy. He hopes everything will improve if their family gets the chance to start over in a colony in Drenthe or Overijssel. It's a bitter pill for Andries. Life there is brutal. Andries has to dig until his hands bleed. His father constantly gets them into trouble, meaning they can never stay in one place for long. But what are they running from? What happened in the past? Will Andries and his family succeed in coming to terms with the past and finally start over somewhere truly new?
