Floor Bal, who received a Vlag en Wimpel (Flag and Pennant) from the Griffeljury for her book 'Het hele soepzootje' (The Whole Soup Zootje), provides answers to all these children's questions about death in a clear, yet reassuring way. Her text remains factual, but has an unprecedented warmth and affection in it. The illustrations by Grootzus from Rotterdam are just as idiosyncratic. With her imaginative collages, she depicts both the light and dark sides of death with great verve and colour.
