Viscounts of the West Kingdom takes place during a time when the king's power is waning. The once-fearful king chooses peace over prosperity. He offers his enemies gold and land in exchange for laying down their weapons. But this peace is fragile. As poverty continues to grow, many people lose faith in the king and turn away from the monarchy. Everyone is dependent on the king, and the future is uncertain. The viscounts must be wise and decisive. They must appear loyal, but the favor of the people is their highest priority in case a change of power occurs.
